Where Science Meets the Soul-Healing Magic of Horses

There’s something undeniably special about being in the presence of a horse—an unspoken connection that calms the mind, eases anxiety, and invites you to simply be.

At our farm, we combine the gentle, grounding presence of horses with evidence-based practices to support emotional, mental, and relational wellness in children, adolescents, and adults.

Whether you're seeking support for anxiety, trauma, PTSD, ADHD, or simply looking to reconnect with yourself in a meaningful way, Equine-Assisted Therapy (EAT) offers an empowering path to healing, regulation, and growth.

What Is Equine-Assisted Therapy?

Equine-Assisted Therapy (EAT) is a clinically supported therapeutic approach that uses the horse-human connection as a mirror to foster insight, healing, and transformation. Sessions are facilitated by trained professionals and often include licensed mental health providers, depending on the goals of the participant.

Unlike traditional therapy, the horses become co-facilitators. Their immediate, non-verbal feedback helps clients:

  • Recognize and regulate emotional states

  • Develop healthy boundaries

  • Rebuild trust

  • Engage in safe, embodied connection

  • Practice mindfulness and self-awareness

Sessions are typically ground-based, although can be mounted and designed to be trauma-informed, client-led, and accessible to all levels of comfort and experience.

Why Horses? A Mirror for the Nervous System

Horses are prey animals—highly attuned to their environment and to the emotional energy of those around them. They live moment-to-moment, scanning for safety, connection, and congruence. In this way, horses and humans—especially those living with PTSD, anxiety, or trauma histories—have much in common.

Just like horses, trauma survivors often:

  • Remain hypervigilant

  • Scan constantly for danger or disconnection

  • Struggle with trust or emotional safety

  • Respond quickly to subtle shifts in tone or energy

Because of this shared sensitivity, many clients feel seen, understood, and accepted by horses in a way that can feel difficult with humans. Over time, working with horses can help retrain the nervous system toward regulation, safety, and connection.

Backed by Research

Multiple studies have shown that equine-assisted interventions can significantly improve mental health outcomes, particularly for those with:

  • PTSD (including combat veterans and trauma survivors)

  • Anxiety and panic disorders

  • Depression

  • Attachment disorders

  • Autism spectrum disorders and ADHD
